Forms Within, Layla Walter

Saturday 7 May - 4 June 2022

By making the refractory mold in several parts I have modified a process to work without wax as a template. This had enabled me to streamline my process, explore new ways of making imagery on the inside of my vessels and go up in scale. At this scale I have introduced the human form, life size, alongside my botanical imagery. It has been a pleasure to work with dancers, actors and life models.

Thank you to all who have assisted me in this work, from the mold making team, life models and studio assistants (Nerida Johnstone, Suzan Lee and Mātene Sisnett). Thank you to Traver Gallery in Seattle,  Masterworks Gallery in Auckland,  and Creative New Zealand for supporting the development, creation and exhibition of this new glass art work.
