Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award 2022

Heather Olesen is the winner of the President's Choice Award (James Allen) at the 2022 Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award.

‘Rising Tensions’
Slumped float glass & no.8 wire

“The artwork explores the proliferation of rising tensions, uncertainty and vulnerabilities among New Zealanders and global tensions between world leaders.
Questioning long-term perspectives, potential implications and resilience on how to prepare for and deal with global pandemics - or other risks - in an increasingly interconnected world.
Stretched to breaking point, the work creates a dialogue of perspectives; decisions and strategic steps involved towards finding a balance that can be maintained over long periods of time.”

The annual Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award is a renowned competition challenging artists from across New Zealand to transform the iconic agricultural product, No.8 wire, into inspiring art.
