Carmen Simmonds
Carmen is a professional cast glass and mixed media artist living and working from her rural studio in Whanganui, New Zealand.
She regularly teaches glass-casting workshops and is an ongoing mentor to many students throughout New Zealand. Known for her textural and feminine glass forms, Carmen’s art practice has evolved from early explorations of historical dress, into forms created using crochet stitching, found objects and the technique of lost wax casting. Carmen has travelled and exhibited her work extensively within New Zealand and overseas, including taking part in the international showcase of Wearable Glass Art in Corning, New York. Her work has been collected within New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and the USA. Carmen welcomes studio visits at her Whanganui studio by appointment.
